An Attitude of Gratitude

"Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance."

-Eckhart Tolle

Being grateful can be very challenging at times but is so important! I love this quote from Eckhart Tolle because it points out that if you aren't grateful, you won't gain anything more. An attitude of gratitude is everything!

On my worst days is when I really try to take inventory of what I'm grateful for because it helps put what I'm dealing with in perspective. When I'm feeling overwhelmed or hopeless I take a step back, look at what I have, and the problems seem so small compared to my blessings.

I put together 4 tips on how to keep an attitude of gratitude, even when things get tough!

  1. Make a list of 5 things you are grateful for daily: Somedays it may simply be "I woke up today", but isn't that a great thing to be grateful for?! Keep them in a journal on paper or on your phone, so you can look back on them the days you are struggling. Again, this puts into perspective what you do have so you can quit focusing on what you may not have.

  2. Appreciate something beautiful each day: For me, a lot of the time it's looking at my fish and realizing how much beauty I have in my home because of them. Or see a pretty flower and take note of how beautiful it looks. Make a mental note and appreciate what is around you! This world can be ugly at times so it's important to see the beauty that is here!

  3. Keep a positive attitude: This is easier said than done, I totally get that but positivity and gratitude can go hand in hand. If you find yourself thinking negatively, stop, take a deep breath, and try to get your thoughts back onto a positive path. Take a midday mental note of what you have to be grateful for, get some self-care in, or do whatever you need to do to get yourself feeling better.

  4. Give others a reason to be grateful: Spreading kindness around will make you feel better, along with others that you come in contact with. Hold the door for someone, pay for the car behind you at the coffee shop, or tell a friend home much you appreciate them. The list is endless! When you do something positive for someone else, it feels up your internal bucket!

4 very simple steps can change your life, your attitude, and boost the morale of those you come in contact with. I understand that simple does not mean easy, so start with what you can and work towards building that level of gratitude.

Much love,

M
