Okay, on a serious note, who else is ecstatic that kids are heading back to school?! I love my kids to the end of the earth, but that break we get when they are at school is bliss! Lord knows my snack budget needs a break!
However, making that adjustment from being home all day to getting back into the school routine can be difficult. Especially for kids like Rayne, they build a routine and when you throw it off it gets rocky! So what I've done is compiled a list of 5 tips to get yourself & the kids ready for this school year!
Get on your bedtime and wake-up time schedule asap! This can be the hardest adjustment you make. If you're like me, you get relaxed on bedtimes during the summer (except for Rayne, her bedtime stays the same). Start this at LEAST 2 weeks ahead of time. Then everyone can feel prepared to get up early when the times comes.
Hair Cuts & Shopping Get these done ASAP! I've made the mistake of waiting and trying to get school supplies a week before school is hell. Last year we had to make multiple stops because everywhere was out of half of it. Everyone is getting school supplies, clothes, and haircuts for school Get your errands out of the way now! Don't let yourself get stressed by waiting.
Create a Schedule Whether virtually or on paper, get your schedules and routines written out so everyone is on the same page ahead of time. Make sure the kids know what they need to do before and after school instead of nagging them the day of.
Plan for First-Day Pictures I've rushed to get pictures after school or half-assed the ones before. Plan ahead! If you are having them hold up a board, fill it out ahead of time. Make sure you plan for extra time that first morning!
Plan Your Meals Second to the bedtime schedule, I'd say this is the next important one. Meals can be super stressful if you don't plan ahead! If the kids are eating at school, easy enough. If you plan to make lunches, plan at least a week ahead. Do your shopping once a week after planning and this will make life so much easier! Plan ahead for snacks and such as well.
The big takeaway is not to procrastinate. You'll only get yourself stressed and burned out right away if you do wait on everything. Plan ahead!!
What are you most looking forward to this next school year?
