Becoming a Diva: Makeup and Clothing

Those that have known me for years know I used to not care about my looks. I get dolled up to go out but other than that it's always baggy clothes, no make-up, hair always in a sloppy bun, and just overall looking like I don't care. Meeting Mike is what changed that for me.

When I met Mike I was in clothes 3x too big for me and not a touch of makeup. I felt icky on the inside and it showed on the outside. I was healing from my domestic violence situation, hated where I was in life, and the last thing I was going to worry about was my looks. He says that with all that aside he found me beautiful and it was my smile that drew him in (awwww)!

As I became happier my looks began to change. I wanted to look nicer but I struggled so badly with knowing how. I don't have an eye for fashion and I had to learn how to do my makeup. Slowly Mike helped me learn how to dress, he's got such an eye for fashion for both himself and me! I used Youtube to learn how to do my makeup properly and very quickly turned into a diva.

Don't get me wrong, I love my sweatpants and my baggy T-shirts. I'm not afraid to leave the house without makeup, but most days I try to do myself up and look presentable.

Why though? I work from home and nearly never leave my house.

Because Mike taught me the ties between looking good and feeling good. I'm more productive on the days I get dressed up and I can tell the decline on the days I just roll out of bed and get on my computer.

I want to note Mike finds me beautiful no matter what I'm wearing or if I have makeup on, he just wanted to show me the correlation between looking good and feeling good.

Some people may think this all sounds shallow but I can't tell you how much it has helped me get into the right mindset each day. It's all mental for me. I don't have to do exorbitant amounts of makeup, but for me, just having a little mascara on helps me feel ready to start my day!

Conclusion

Here are a few reasons why I DON'T dress up:

  • To impress others, neither women nor men. It's not to grab the attention of others or impress them. It's for me.

  • It's not to feel superior to anyone who may not have done up themselves that day.

Here are a few reasons you should dress yourself up a bit each day:

  • Look better, feel better. It's simple, when you feel pretty or handsome, it helps you mentally.

  • You tend to be more productive when you are feeling put together. There's something special about being done up and feeling like you can take on the world!

With all that being said I challenge you to try it out! Take an extra minute in the morning to put on a special outfit that makes you feel good or put a little mascara on. I really believe that it makes a world of difference when you feel good about how you look!

What is the one item that makes you feel a little spicey? What could you do each morning to help you feel more on top of the world?

Diva (/ˈdiːvə/; Italian: [ˈdiːva]) is the Latin word for a goddess. I love it when those with a negative viewpoint prove their ignorance by using a word which has been bastardized over the centuries to mean something completely different. YES, you are a Diva! Every woman should aspire to think of themselves in those terms. Rock On!
